This year’s Face of Kenya, Germany edition was an evening that set the benchmark for others to follow. The event being held in Frankfurt, It saw Kenyans attending from as far as the USA, UK, France and various parts of Germany all in an effort to support the great causes showcased as well as promote community cohesion as the theme for the year. At a time when Kenya is facing a difficult period owing to the recently concluded elections, it was great to see Kenyans from different backgrounds and tribal lines converging for an evening of great fun with a greater purpose of benefiting our country in its entirety. The message was clear throughout the evening and was resounded by the founder, Janet Wainaina |
Face of Kenya sets apart from other pageants as its focus is not on the beauty or the catwalk, but the initiative and hard work put in by its ambassadors to elevate the lives of the underprivileged back at home. The founder, Janet Wainaina provides this platform for the Kenyan youth living in the diaspora to give back to Kenya through promoting the country for its rich diverse culture and natural beauty as well as by fundraising for a charity of their own choice to support the cause and also create awareness on the same.
This year, Face of Kenya Germany under the leadership of Tony Kareru Haeublein (Whitecap), the Germany manager, displayed a heart-warming and unifying show that was much needed and felt by all in attendance.
The event this year had only 6 ambassadors, Elyne Hawala, Mercy Oduma, Eve Akinyi, Carolyne Bridget Achieng, Monica Wanjiru and Angeline Nafula with Mercy Oduma clinching the title of Face of Kenya Germany 2017. She chose two charities that support the education and empowerment of young girls, Feminds Organisation, and Angel Sheila Foundation and the proceeds from her fundraising will be shared between the two. Carolyne Bridget was the 1st runners up supporting an orphanage followed by Monica Wanjiru as the 2nd runners up supporting Ushuhuda children’s home in Thika. In total the ambassadors managed to raise a total of which will go a long way in helping the chosen charities.
